About Us

Welcome to Tyrannostorus, where adventure, discovery, and hands-on learning come together! Located in the heart of Mesa, Arizona, Tyrannostorus is more than just a store - it’s a gateway to the past, a place where families can explore the wonders of natural history through interactive experiences.

Our Story

Tyrannostorus was born from a love of fossils, dinosaurs, and hands-on learning. Store owner Christian Kaleta has always had a fascination with prehistoric life, an interest he shares with his son. Their passion for discovery took them on a fossil dig in Wyoming, where inspiration struck.

“We had so much fun. We brainstormed on the way back home,” said Kaleta. He wanted to bring that same sense of adventure to families in Arizona, creating a space where kids and parents could dig, discover, and learn together.

With a background in exotic animals and as the owner of Predators Reptile Center, Kaleta saw Tyrannostorus as the perfect fit - an educational experience where kids don’t just observe but engage.

Hands-On Discovery

At Tyrannostorus, we believe learning should be a hands-on experience, which is why we encourage kids to touch everything! "My son loves museums, but he always wants to touch everything. That’s what kids do - they touch," Kaleta explains. "Here, we want them to play, to get close and personal with T-Rex, to bring that imagination to life."

One of the most popular attractions at Tyrannostorus is the sluice, where kids can sift for treasure. With a variety of excavation bags available, visitors can uncover fossils, gems, minerals, arrowheads, seashells, and even real emeralds!

“You can grab a $10 bag and the kids can come to play for a half-hour to an hour and learn,” Kaleta explains. It’s an affordable and engaging activity for families looking for something different to do.

Family-Friendly Fun

Tyrannostorus isn’t just for kids - it’s a place where the whole family can share in the excitement of discovery. Kaleta has seen firsthand how parents get just as involved as their children.

“It’s interesting to watch because the kids start to do the activities such as the sluice or the digging but then the parents make their way in,” he said. “Everything these days is electronic and hands-off. Kids are playing video games and parents are working. This is a chance to come in, get together, and learn together, and that’s a lot of fun to watch.”
