Own an authentic piece of prehistoric history with this genuine Tyrannosaurus rex maxillary tooth fossil from the world-famous Hell Creek Formation of Montana. Measuring 3.412 inches long, this impressive specimen was discovered on a private ranch in Jordan, Montana during the summer of 2024.

This exceptional specimen is presented on the custom-built display stand pictured, featuring a 4 × 4 × 2-inch wooden base and a custom-engraved placard identifying the animal, specimen type, specimen size, geologic formation, and geologic age. With the tooth mounted on the stand, the complete display measures approximately 7.75 inches tall. The stand was designed specifically to complement the tooth and create a museum-quality presentation ready for display.

This tooth features beautiful dark natural enamel, a thick, robust profile, and visible serrations along the carinae. The specimen displays the classic heavily built morphology associated with Tyrannosaurus rex feeding teeth and has outstanding visual presence both in hand and on display.

The fossil retains substantial original tooth material with attractive enamel texture and natural coloration throughout. Repaired cracks and restored sections are present, which helped stabilize and preserve the specimen. UV light photography has been included to provide transparency regarding restoration and preservation work. In the UV images, the lighter fluorescent areas represent original fossil material, while the darker sections indicate repaired or restored portions. The restoration was professionally completed and remains relatively moderate considering the size and rarity of the tooth.

The tooth presents exceptionally well with a strong natural curve, deep coloration, and excellent collector appeal. At over 3.4 inches long, this is a substantial Tyrannosaurus rex tooth that would make an impressive centerpiece in any dinosaur fossil collection.

A detailed provenance portfolio and Certificate of Authenticity will accompany this specimen. Discovery coordinates from the private Hell Creek Formation locality will be provided to the buyer within the provenance documentation.

About Tyrannosaurus rex

Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest and most powerful land predators to ever live. Reaching lengths of up to 40 feet and weighing as much as 8 to 9 tons, T. rex dominated western North America during the very end of the Age of Dinosaurs.

Its massive jaws contained dozens of thick, serrated teeth designed for crushing bone and tearing flesh. Unlike the narrow, blade-like teeth of some theropods, Tyrannosaurus rex teeth were heavily built and adapted to withstand tremendous bite forces. Paleontologists estimate that T. rex possessed one of the strongest bites of any terrestrial animal known.

Teeth from Tyrannosaurus rex are among the most sought-after dinosaur fossils in the world due to their rarity, scientific importance, and iconic status in paleontology. Each authentic tooth represents a direct connection to one of history’s most legendary predators and the final chapter of the dinosaur era before the mass extinction event approximately 66 million years ago.

About the Hell Creek Formation

The Hell Creek Formation is one of the most famous fossil-producing formations in the world and is renowned for yielding some of the last dinosaurs to live before the end-Cretaceous mass extinction event. Spanning parts of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming, the formation dates to approximately 66 million years ago.

This ancient environment once consisted of rivers, floodplains, forests, and coastal lowlands that supported an incredible diversity of life. Fossils discovered from the Hell Creek Formation include Triceratops, Edmontosaurus, Ankylosaurus, giant crocodilians, turtles, fish, mammals, and, of course, Tyrannosaurus rex.

Because of its scientific importance and association with Tyrannosaurus rex, authentic fossils from the Hell Creek Formation remain highly prized by collectors, museums, and researchers alike. Fossils with documented provenance from known localities within the formation are especially desirable for both educational and collector purposes.
