Akantharges Trilobite
With its elaborate spines and highly detailed exoskeleton, this Akantharges trilobite is a striking example of the unusual forms that inhabited ancient Devonian seas.
Dating to the Middle Devonian Period approximately 390 million years ago, this specimen comes from the El Otfal Formation of Morocco. Akantharges trilobites are known for their ornate, spiny anatomy, with prominent projections surrounding the body and a strongly segmented exoskeleton that gives them a particularly distinctive appearance.
This specimen measures approximately 1 inch long and is presented on an approximately 3 x 1.5 inch matrix. Careful preparation has exposed the trilobite in three dimensions, allowing its raised body, detailed segmentation, and dramatic projecting spines to be viewed from multiple angles. Its elevated presentation makes this small but intricate fossil especially eye-catching on display.
A Certificate of Authenticity from Tyrannostorus is included.
