Asaphopsoides yongshunensis Trilobite
Travel back approximately 480 million years with this impressive Asaphopsoides yongshunensis trilobite fossil from the Early Ordovician Period. Originating from China, this remarkable specimen offers a fascinating glimpse into the prehistoric marine environments that existed long before dinosaurs appeared on Earth.
Asaphopsoides yongshunensis is a distinctive species of trilobite known for its large, broad body, elongated oval shape, and beautifully segmented exoskeleton. This ancient marine arthropod possessed a wide head shield, a series of articulated thoracic segments, and a rounded tail shield. Some individuals of this species grew to more than 12 inches in length, making it one of the larger trilobite species known from China. Like other trilobites, these prehistoric creatures inhabited ancient oceans and relied on their protective exoskeletons for survival.
This substantial specimen measures approximately 5.75 inches and features a broad, articulated trilobite preserved on a dark natural matrix. Its distinctive blue-gray coloration contrasts beautifully with the nearly black surrounding stone, highlighting the intricate details of its ancient exoskeleton. The fossil displays a prominent central axis, numerous well-defined thoracic segments, and broad lateral sections that curve toward the outer edges. Fine surface textures and natural mineral variations add character to this impressive specimen, making it an excellent display piece for fossil collectors and natural history enthusiasts.
