Drotops Trilobite (4.75" on 5.5 x 3" Matrix)
This impressive Drotops trilobite is a striking example of the heavily ornamented trilobites that inhabited the seas of Devonian Morocco. Dating to the Devonian Period, this large specimen displays the dramatic anatomy that makes Drotops a favorite among fossil collectors.
The trilobite features a robust, strongly segmented exoskeleton covered with numerous prominent spines. Its broad cephalon displays a heavily textured, tuberculated surface along with two large, well-defined compound eyes. Rows of spines continue along the thorax and toward the pygidium, giving the specimen an especially dramatic appearance from multiple angles.
Measuring approximately 4.75 inches long, the trilobite has been prepared in substantial three dimensional relief, rising prominently from its surrounding matrix. It is presented on an approximately 5.5 x 3 inch natural matrix, with the dark fossil contrasting against the lighter stone.
