Ellipsocephalus Trilobite Plate
Featuring multiple trilobites preserved together on a single natural matrix, this Ellipsocephalus sp. fossil plate offers a fascinating glimpse into the ancient marine life that inhabited Earth's Cambrian seas more than 500 million years ago.
Dating to the Middle Cambrian Period approximately 513 to 501 million years ago, this specimen comes from the Igoudine Formation near Sidi Abdallah ben al Hady, Morocco. Ellipsocephalus trilobites are recognized for their oval-shaped bodies, rounded head shields, and distinctly segmented exoskeletons. These early marine arthropods inhabited ancient seafloors, where they likely moved across soft sediments in search of food.
This remarkable fossil plate features several Ellipsocephalus trilobites ranging from approximately 1 to 1.5 inches long, preserved on a natural matrix measuring approximately 4.5 × 4 inches. The trilobites display beautifully defined body segmentation, with warm golden-brown and rust-colored fossils contrasting against the matrix's dark gray, cream, and earthy tones. The specimens are preserved in various orientations, with several more complete examples accompanied by partial fossil remains. This natural arrangement creates a visually striking display and offers an intriguing glimpse into the diversity of life on the ancient Cambrian seafloor.
A Certificate of Authenticity from Tyrannostorus is included.
