Hoekospis yahuari Trilobite
Travel back approximately 470 million years with this impressive Hoekaspis yahuari trilobite fossil from the Middle Ordovician Period. Discovered near Coroico, Bolivia, this prehistoric marine arthropod lived in an ancient ocean long before dinosaurs appeared on Earth.
Hoekaspis yahuari is known for its distinctive elongated body, broad head shield, and beautifully segmented exoskeleton. Like other trilobites, these ancient creatures possessed a hard outer shell that provided protection as they moved along the seafloor. Trilobites were among the most successful groups of early marine animals, thriving for nearly 270 million years before becoming extinct approximately 252 million years ago.
This substantial specimen measures approximately 4 inches and features an articulated trilobite preserved on its natural matrix. The fossil displays a broad cephalon (head), clearly defined thoracic segments, and a prominent pygidium (tail). Its dark gray and black coloration, accented by rich reddish-brown mineral tones, creates striking contrast and highlights the intricate details of its ancient exoskeleton.
Measuring approximately 4 inches on a 5 x 3.5 inch matrix, this fascinating fossil makes an excellent addition to any trilobite collection or natural history display.
