Pyrite Suns are also called Pyrite Dollars, Miner's Dollars, and Sun Dollars. They might look like fossilized plants, but they're actually crystal structures that formed deep underground under great pressure an estimated 350 million years ago. Pyrite is common worldwide, but these unique disks are only found in coal deposits near Sparta, Illinois.
This stunning Pyrite Sun measures 2.75-3 inches wide. It's on black shale that measures 7.75 inches by 5 inches at its widest points. The shale is 1 inch thick at its thickest point. This is a sturdy and heavy piece, weighing 2.7 pounds (1231 grams). You will receive the item pictured in this listing (minus any additional decor).
