Tower-Eyed Erbenochile Trilobite
This fascinating Tower-Eyed Erbenochile trilobite is a remarkable example of the unusual adaptations found among Devonian trilobites. Dating to the Middle Devonian Period, approximately 390 million years ago, the specimen comes from the Timrhanrhart Formation of Morocco.
Erbenochile trilobites are especially distinctive for their extraordinary tower-like eyes, which rise prominently above the head. This specimen displays that characteristic elevated eye structure along with a well-defined segmented exoskeleton and a series of delicate spines. Its three-dimensional preparation leaves the trilobite elevated above the surrounding matrix, making its unusual anatomy visible from multiple angles.
Measuring approximately 1/2 inch, the trilobite rests on a compact 2.25 x 1.75 inch matrix. Although small in size, its dramatic form and specialized eyes make it an especially interesting specimen for collectors of unusual trilobites and prehistoric marine life.
