Ammonites inhabited the planet almost twice as long as dinosaurs. They were around for more than 300 million years before a mass extinction event around 66 million years ago. Now ammonite fossils provide a wealth of information to scientists who date rocks and study prehistoric life.
Ammonites are good index fossils for the Cretaceous Period because they are found in many types of marine sedimentary rocks and they evolved rapidly, so each species had a relatively short lifespan.
These iridescent ammonites come from the Mahajanga province of Madagascar and dates back to the Cretaceous Period (approximately 110 million years ago). They are opalescent and shimmer beautifully.
This listing is for 1 ammonite that is approximately 1 inch. Pictures are representative of what you will receive. Each specimen is unique, so there might be small variances. These pieces are products of nature and may include natural imperfections.
