Cyphaspis Trilobite
With its distinctive bulbous head and dramatic sweeping spines, this Cyphaspis trilobite is an eye-catching example of the remarkable diversity of trilobites that inhabited the ancient seas of what is now Morocco.
Dating to the Devonian Period, Cyphaspis is recognized for its compact body, strongly defined segmented exoskeleton, prominent cephalon, and elongated spines. This specimen has been carefully prepared in three dimensions, allowing the trilobite to rise prominently above the surrounding matrix. Its long, projecting spines extend outward from the body, creating a particularly striking profile when viewed from different angles.
The trilobite measures approximately 1.5 inches long and is presented on an approximately 3 x 2 inch natural matrix. The contrast between the dark fossil and light-colored stone further highlights its unusual anatomy and three-dimensional preservation.
