Drotops armatus Trilobite (5" on 6 x 3.5" Matrix)
This impressive Drotops armatus trilobite is a dramatic example of the heavily ornamented trilobites that inhabited the seas of Devonian Morocco. Dating to the Middle Devonian Period approximately 390 million years ago, this large specimen displays the robust body and extensive spination characteristic of Drotops.
The trilobite features a strongly segmented exoskeleton covered with numerous prominent spines extending along the thorax and around the margins of the body. Its broad cephalon has a heavily textured, tuberculated surface, while the raised preparation gives the specimen substantial three dimensional depth. Viewed from the sides, its elevated body and dense rows of spines create an especially striking profile.
Measuring approximately 5 inches long, the trilobite is presented on an approximately 6 x 3.5 inch matrix. The dark coloration of the fossil contrasts beautifully with the lighter surrounding stone, emphasizing the detailed segmentation, textured cephalon, and extensive spination.
A Certificate of Authenticity from Tyrannostorus is included.
