Phacops Trilobite Fossil
With its beautifully defined body segments, rounded exoskeleton, and striking three-dimensional preservation, this Phacops trilobite is an impressive example of the ancient marine life that inhabited Earth's Devonian seas.
Dating to the Middle Devonian Period approximately 390 million years ago, this specimen comes from the Hamar Laghdad Formation near Erfoud, Morocco. Phacops trilobites are particularly recognized for their distinctive compound eyes, rounded head shields, and segmented bodies. These fascinating marine arthropods inhabited ancient seafloors and possessed the ability to enroll their bodies for protection against predators.
This specimen measures approximately 1.75 inches long and is preserved on a natural matrix measuring approximately 2.25 × 1.75 inches. Its dark, well-defined exoskeleton contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix, highlighting the trilobite's pronounced body segmentation and three-dimensional form. The detailed preparation allows the fossil to be appreciated from multiple angles, making it an attractive display specimen from Morocco's rich fossil record.
A Certificate of Authenticity from Tyrannostorus is included.
