Fun Facts About State Dinosaurs (Sonorasaurus)

Did you know there are state dinosaurs? Arizona's state dinosaur is Sonorasaurus. Here are some fun facts:

  • Sonorasaurus was a sauropod.
  • Sauropods were long necked dinosaurs. They were among the largest animals to walk the planet. 
  • Sonorasaurus was discovered in southern Arizona in 1994. 
  • It was found in the Sonoran Desert, hence the name. 
  • Scientists believe Sonorasaurus was closely related to Brachiosaurus. 
  • It could have been 49 feet long and 26 feet tall!
  • Other state dinosaurs include Stegosaurus (Colorado), Utahraptor (Utah), and Triceratops (Wyoming).
