These natural ammonite fossils were discovered in Madagascar and are 180 million years old! Ammonites inhabited the planet almost twice as long as dinosaurs. They were around for more than 300 million years before a mass extinction event around 66 million years ago. Now ammonite fossils provide a wealth of information to scientists who date rocks and study prehistoric life. Ammonites are good index fossils for the Cretaceous Period because they are found in many types of marine sedimentary rocks and they evolved rapidly, so each species had a relatively short lifespan. This listing is for a pair of natural ammonite fossils. They come neatly packaged in the pictured 3 x 2" case, which makes an impressive display. These pictures are representative of what you will receive, but each specimen is unique and can vary slightly in size.
