This is an Asmat tribal skull replica. The Asmat are an ethnic group from remote areas of Papua, New Guinea who were previously known as headhunters and cannibals. Members of the Asmat tribe would remove heads, scorch skulls, and decorate them with beads, shells, feathers, and paint. Special nose decorations called bipanes were often added. The skulls were placed around the village to honor loved ones who had departed. You will receive the item pictured, which is approximately 12.5 inches tall from the bottom of the base to the top of the skull. The skull is approximately 8 inches wide, 8 inches tall, and 10 inches from front to back plus decorative embellishments.
