This premium Basilosaurus tooth fossil from Morocco offers a rare opportunity to own an exact piece of prehistoric history. Basilosaurus was one of the earliest fully aquatic whales, living during the late Eocene epoch approximately 41 to 34 million years ago. Although its name means “king lizard,” early scientists originally misidentified the fossils as belonging to a giant reptile. Further study later confirmed Basilosaurus as an ancient marine mammal and a key stage in whale evolution.
Basilosaurus was a powerful ocean predator with an elongated body and strong jaws lined with large, sharp teeth used to capture prey. Fossils from Morocco are attributed to Basilosaurus isis, which inhabited the warm shallow seas that once covered North Africa. Teeth from this species are especially valued for their size, preservation, and scientific significance.
