Specimen: Blue Morpho Butterfly (Morpho amathonte)
Wingspan: 5.25"
Frame Color: White
Frame Dimensions: 9" x 9" x 1.75"
Morpho amathonte is considered by some to be a subspecies of Morpho menelaus. Found in Central America, these Blue Morpho butterflies are large and feature shiny, metallic blue wings. This gorgeous butterfly is a stunning example of structural coloration. Its iridescent wings are the result of constructive interference. This remarkable specimen captures that brilliance and is even more radiant in person!
Our bug boxes are larger than most. The frames are 9" x 9" and feature beautifully preserved specimens mounted on a linen background in a wooden frame behind clear glass. All specimens have been ethically sourced. You will receive the bug box pictured in this listing. (Please note that the specimen's body was removed during taxidermy because it contains oils that can destroy the wings.) The photos reflect natural variances in lighting. Approximate measurements and additional details are listed above.
