Dung Beetle
Dung Beetle
Specimen: Dung Beetle (Heliocopris sp.)
Length: 2.5"
Frame Color: Black
Frame Dimensions: 9" x 9" x 1.75"
Heliocopris is a genus of scarab beetles found in Africa and Southeast Asia. Scarab beetles were a symbol of good fortune, renewal, and rebirth in ancient Egypt. Egyptians associated the scarab beetle with their sun god and incorporated scarabs in their art and jewelry. These beetles are also known as Dung Beetles because they use the manure of other animals in unique ways. They use spurs on their back legs to roll dung balls, and the hornlike structure on the head or thorax can be used to fight. The horn is present and visible on this specimen!
Our bug boxes are larger than most. The frames are 9" x 9" and feature beautifully preserved specimens mounted on a linen background in a wooden frame behind clear glass. All specimens have been ethically sourced. You will receive the bug box pictured in this listing. (The video is an example of a similar specimen displayed as home decor.) Approximate measurements and additional details are listed above.
