The Elephant Bird was a colossal, flightless species that once roamed Madagascar. Extinct since around 1000 AD, Aepyornis maximus holds the record as the heaviest bird ever known, standing over 3 meters tall and weighing nearly half a ton. These gentle herbivores laid the largest eggs of any bird, with some measuring more than one meter in circumference.

Their disappearance is believed to have resulted from human activity, habitat loss, and hunting, leaving behind only rare fossils like these eggshell fragments as evidence of their existence.
