Giant Owl Butterflies are known for the huge eyespots on their wings. These spots resemble owls' eyes and serve to deter potential predators. Owl butterflies prefer to fly in dusk, which also helps them avoid predators. Their Latin name is a reference to their active periods since Caligo means darkness. These striking butterflies can be found in the rainforests of Mexico, Central, and South America.
