In Greek mythology, the sphinx was sent by the gods to plague the town of Thebes for an ancient crime. The sphinx was a female monster with the head of a woman, body of a lion, and wings of a bird. She was treacherous and merciless, devouring those who couldn't solve her riddle. Oedipus, the mythical Greek king of Thebes, was able to answer the riddle correctly. This statue portrays the legendary Greek Sphinx. It is 10 inches tall, 8.5 inches long, 3.25 inches wide, and made of resin.
