Javelinas, also known as collared peccaries, are native to the deserts of the southwestern United States—including right here in Arizona. These pig-like mammals live in groups called “squadrons” and spend their days foraging for roots, fruits, and cactus pads. Though they look like pigs, javelinas are actually more closely related to hippos!
Javelinas have tough snouts perfect for digging, short bristly fur, and a strong musky scent they use to recognize each other. Don’t worry—our plush version is all cuddles and no desert funk.
