Discover a piece of prehistoric history with this incredible Jurassic-aged plant fossil! This fossilized specimen of Otozamites, a member of the extinct Bennettitales order, dates back nearly 200 million years to the early Jurassic period.
Bennettitales, also known as cycadeoids, were once among the most common seed plants of the Mesozoic era. Though they resembled modern cycads, they had more complex, flower-like reproductive structures—some of which were likely pollinated by insects. These plants flourished from the Permian period through most of the Cretaceous, appearing in shrub and cycad-like forms before fading into extinction.
This particular fossil slab was unearthed from the Talkeetna Formation in Alaska, preserving the delicate details of Otozamites foliage in stunning relief. Measuring approximately 12 inches across, this one-of-a-kind specimen is a breathtaking addition to any fossil collection, natural history display, or educational exhibit.
