Hand axes were essential multi purpose tools used for cutting, butchering, digging, and processing materials, making them some of the most important artifacts in human evolution. Each specimen is professionally displayed on a custom stand.
The small hand axe is labeled Late Acheulean and dates from approximately 200,000 to 50,000 years old. It is crafted from multicolored jasper and represents a later phase of Acheulean toolmaking with more refined shaping techniques. This specimen measures approximately 2.5 inches wide and stands 5.5 inches tall including the display stand.
The large hand axe is labeled Acheulean and dates from approximately 700,000 to 120,000 years old. It is made of quartzite and associated with Atlanthropus mauritanicus, an early hominin identified in North Africa. This impressive piece measures approximately just over 5 inches wide and stands 10.5 inches tall including the display stand.
